EV Battery Charges in Just 18 Seconds, Approved for Mass Production Charge in 18 sec

A British company, RML Group, received certification to mass‑produce its new VarEVolt battery for EVs. This battery can be fully charged in just 18 seconds, a major leap compared to current fast‑charging EVs.

The VarEVolt battery has a C‑rating of 200, meaning it can charge or discharge completely in 18 seconds. It delivers about 6 kW of power per kilogram, putting it on par with high‑performance racing applications.

RML has secured Conformity of Production approval under UN ECE Regulation 100, which allows it to scale up from prototype to larger‑scale production. This approval confirms the battery meets safety and quality standards required for mass manufacturing.

VarEVolt will first power the Czinger 21C hypercar, demonstrating its performance in real‑world, high‑power scenarios. RML’s Head of Powertrain, James Arkell, said the certification shows the company is ready for larger production deals.

This technology could enable electric cars to charge almost as quickly as filling a petrol tank. While widespread infrastructure for such high‑power charging doesn’t exist yet, the battery’s approval paves the way for future fast‑charging networks.
