BatX Energies Secures Government Support to Scale Indigenous Battery Recycling Technology

BatX Energies Secures Government Support to Scale Indigenous Battery Recycling Technology TBD

The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has extended financial support to BatX Energies Pvt. Ltd., Gurugram. The support is for a project focused on commercialising indigenous technologies for battery-grade material recovery through a closed-loop recycling process.

BatX Energies has developed a hydrometallurgical process that works across all lithium-ion battery chemistries. The process operates at low temperature and low pressure and includes both wet and dry modes of black mass recovery. It offers high separation efficiency with metal recovery rates ranging from 97% to 99%.

The recycling process covers collection, shredding, metal leaching, and downstream purification. All steps are developed in-house, with the company holding seven patents, including two that are granted. This reduces reliance on imported recycling equipment and supports the use of locally available materials.

The financial support will help BatX scale its existing pilot facility into a commercial-scale operation. The facility will produce high-purity lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese compounds for reuse in battery production. These recovered compounds, such as lithium carbonate and cobalt sulphate, meet international standards and will be used both in domestic markets and for exports.

TDB Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak said that developing local recycling infrastructure is essential for India’s clean energy goals. The support for BatX aligns with national priorities like Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the promotion of a circular economy.

Mr. Utkarsh Singh, Co-founder and CEO of BatX Energies, stated that the funding validates their work and enables them to scale a solution that can reduce mineral imports and support India’s position in clean technology development.

This project is expected to enhance India’s self-reliance in critical minerals and support a sustainable and technology-driven clean energy ecosystem.
